Global Top Gyms: Where Champions Are Made

Whether you’re just getting started in combat sports or have been training for years, there’s something truly magical about the atmosphere of a world-class gym. The smell of leather, the sound of punches hitting pads, the rhythm of footwork on the mats — these are places where discipline and determination come together. But some gyms go beyond just training. They build legends. In this blog, we take you on a journey through four world-renowned MMA gyms that have made their mark on the global stage. Meet Kill Cliff FC in Florida, Team Renegade in the UK, Black House MMA in Los Angeles, and the iconic Serra-Longo Fight Team in New York.
Kill Cliff FC – Where Elite Fighters Are Forged
On the sunny coast of Deerfield Beach, Florida, you’ll find a gym that has gone through several transformations, but always stayed true to one mission: developing elite fighters. Kill Cliff FC, formerly known as Combat Club, Hard Knocks 365, and Sanford MMA, was founded in 2017 by striking coach Henri Hooft and wrestling coach Greg Jones. In a short time, it became a talent hub thanks to its unique combination of technical precision, physical intensity, and mental sharpness.
In 2022, the gym was rebranded as Kill Cliff FC following a partnership with performance drink brand Kill Cliff. But it wasn’t just the name that changed — the vision evolved too. Kill Cliff FC offers a training environment where champions thrive. Among its standout athletes: Michael Chandler, Vicente Luque, Robbie Lawler, and perhaps the most famous, former UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman.
Although Usman briefly left the gym in 2020 to train at ONX Sports under Trevor Wittman in preparation for a bout against teammate Gilbert Burns, he later returned to his roots at Kill Cliff to prepare for his title defense against Leon Edwards at UFC 278. Kill Cliff FC continues to prove that it’s more than just a gym — it’s a system, a family, and a proven path to victory.

Team Renegade MMA & BJJ – British Greatness from the Gro
In the heart of Birmingham lies Team Renegade MMA & BJJ — a gym that has rapidly risen through the ranks of international MMA. Founded in 2013 with a focus on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and grappling, Renegade evolved into a full-fledged MMA institution in 2018 after the nearby Ultimate Training Centre (UTC) closed its doors. Fighters like Leon Edwards and Tom Breese found a new home here.
Under the guidance of head coaches Chiu Kwong Man and Dave Lovell, the gym has become a powerhouse in the European MMA scene. Known for its sharp technique, strategic sparring, and strong team culture, Renegade reached its pinnacle in August 2022 when Leon “Rocky” Edwards delivered a stunning knockout to dethrone Kamaru Usman and become UFC champion — a historic moment for both Edwards and the UK. Renegade is the first gym on British soil to produce a UFC titleholder.

Black House MMA – The House of Legends
When you hear Black House MMA, you think of legends. Founded in 2006 in Los Angeles, this gym was born from a collaboration between elite Brazilian coaches and fighters. Its focus? World-class training, advanced coaching, and a unique blend of fighting styles rooted in Brazilian tradition. The result? A training ground for global superstars like Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, and José Aldo.
Black House isn’t your average gym. It’s an institution where discipline and mindset are just as important as physical strength and technique. The coaching is intense, the atmosphere focused, and the mission clear: greatness. Specializing in a mix of striking, BJJ, and complete MMA, Black House’s impact is felt far beyond its walls. Fighters here know they’re part of something bigger — a legacy, a culture.

Serra-Longo Fight Team – Long Island’s Champion Factory
On Long Island, New York, you’ll find one of the most authentic and successful gyms in UFC history: the Serra-Longo Fight Team. Founded by former UFC Champion Matt Serra and coach Ray Longo, the team operates out of two locations: Serra BJJ Academy and Longo-Weidman MMA. What began as a close partnership between fighter and coach has evolved into a powerhouse with four UFC champions to its name.
The team’s defining moment came in 2007, when Matt Serra shocked the world by defeating Georges St-Pierre — still considered one of the biggest upsets in MMA history. But the success didn’t stop there. Chris Weidman went on to dethrone Anderson Silva and become UFC Middleweight Champion. Aljamain Sterling dominated the bantamweight division, and Merab Dvalishvili — the current UFC Bantamweight Champion — continues that legacy today.
Serra-Longo is known for its tight-knit team culture, technical coaching, and perfect balance of grappling and striking. Fighters here don’t just get stronger — they become mentally sharper, more strategic, and more complete.
